“apostles” sketch

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

Here’s a sketch for a series of large, environmentally-oriented paintings that I have planned. Each painting will have a short text associated with it, but I haven’t decided whether to place the text in the painting, behind the canvas, or in a separate frame. The title of this painting is going to be “Apostles”.

It’s been raining so much that there are tiny plants growing in the median all along I-10. They point and gesture in the wind, “Jesus! All this noise and speed, for what? Are these peoples’ lives brimming with such passion that they can afford to take everything they pass for granted?”

Paul looks up and continues, “Do they see that the sun is on fire?”

A mesquite tree spreads his arms, “In five years, we’ll seed every pothole from here to California. Sparrows will nest in the left lane.”

Jesus nods and blooms.
